My Mum and I on Sunday saw The Wild Robot: ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ๐ŸŽž๏ธ- I remember hearing A LOT about the ambitious painterly look for the CG-animated film ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿ–Œ๏ธ - especially the skies and landscapes remind me a lot of seeing paintings from JMW Turner and John Constable (e.g. Tate Britain ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ)!- What looks like the northwest coast of North America reminds me why I love going to the Eden Project in Cornwall, where you get to explore two immersive biomes - one Rainforest and one Mediterranean/Mexican! ๐ŸŒด๐ŸŒต- There are virtually no humans in this story - and on a smaller scale! ๐Ÿ™‚ I love that it's not about huge crowds of people or entire cities, like you see in some other animated films! ๐Ÿ™๏ธ Animals can be such EXCITING allegories for humans like the possum family and the geese! ๐Ÿชฟ- From the beginning, I just LOVED the concept of being raised by animals (like Mowgli and Tarzan!) - that eventually only Roz can understand what they're speaking! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ- The U age rating fascinates me, because you CAN show emotional and even important messaging whilst still making it appropriate for all ages (I personally wonder when is the earliest age to start discovering feature-length films in the cinema! ๐Ÿ™‚๐ŸŽฆ)! I've said before that there's less financial risk when you make something for ALL AGES, compared with just for ADULTS (like constructing a new transport hub ๐Ÿ—๏ธ๐Ÿš‰)!- I love learning the idea that Roz's voice (Lupita Nyong'o) gradually becomes less programmed over time! ๐Ÿ™‚ My Mum recently told me she is relieved that posters for animated films no longer push HARD the celebrity voiceovers like they did 20 years ago (e.g. Shrek and Kung Fu Panda - often were written WITH that actor in mind)! ๐Ÿ™‚โค๏ธ๐ŸŽ™๏ธJohn Constable (1776-1837, UK) - Rainstorm over the Sea (c.1824-28) ๐Ÿ–ผ๏ธโฌ‡๏ธ

Seven of Pixar's films were Oscar-nominated for Best Original Screenplay, which to me is an even MORE impressive feat than Best Animated Feature! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธFilm (along with games, theatre and TV ๐ŸŽฎ๐ŸŽญ๐Ÿ–ฅ) can be JUST as literary as novels - e.g. Writers Guild of America's 101 Greatest Screenplays! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ๐ŸŽž๐Ÿ“šโฌ‡๏ธhttps://lnkd.in/dAFSXd_5#animation #filmeducation #kidsmedia #artseducation #screenwriting #screenplays #characterwriting

I've heard about this half-hour short that's currently in development, and I even remember first hearing about this at the Cartoon Forum pitching event! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿบ I'm LOVING the visual style - looks like an exciting mix of Cartoon Saloon (Irish folklore trilogy) and Craig McCracken (The Powerpuff Girls; Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends)! ๐Ÿ˜„โค๏ธThe animatic does take me back to being a kid, because my Dad, who worked in the sound engineering side of cartoons for many years, would bring me into the London recording studio to watch the voice actors perform their lines to storyboards! Also, he would give me the pitch bibles of the cartoons he was helping to work on, and it was EXCITING to be exposed to all of that at a very young age! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ๐ŸŽš๏ธ๐ŸŽ™๏ธ#animation #France #Belgium #characterdesign #pitching #animatic #teaser

I love seeing the character concept art being shown on the projector! ๐Ÿ˜ƒโค๏ธThe Sunday Times Culture section (featured on its front cover! โค๏ธ) was talking about "How animation saved Hollywood" - not only leading the box office whilst Marvel and DC were continuing to flop, but makes me think that such HUGE financial success for animation (like Inside Out 2) is eventually going to grab the attention of more producers and filmmakers who are household names like Steven Spielberg and Richard Curtis (like how Spielberg wanted to invest in the growing games industry)! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธI actually find it exciting that even when it's animation (which has such a unique charm compared with live-action), they wanted to make That Christmas look like it belongs in the Curtis canon - just making it appropriate for kids! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ

https://lnkd.in/e6KiWhwjI always enjoy listening to husband and wife Pittsburgh-based team Clownfish TV talk about the latest in the animation industry!I get to learn from wife (and school teacher) Geeky Sparkles that many parents today are showing their kids the most critically-acclaimed preschool shows when THEY were kids (whether it originated from PBS or elsewhere)! ๐Ÿ–ฅ That's the thing - parents have MORE responsibility THAN EVER in knowing where the most talked-about kids TV is coming from, because kids probably won't know what is CBeebies (made to reflect the UK audience! ๐Ÿ™‚) and what is YouTube (owned by a global corporation with shareholders! ๐Ÿ’ฐ๐ŸŒ), where there is hardly ANY regulation because it's never-ending content being uploaded that YT's moderators frankly will never be able to catch up with! โŒจ๏ธ๐Ÿ–ฑ If a YT show gets featured on a national newspaper like my Observer, THAT to me is the seal of approval! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ“ฐ๐Ÿ‘Also, since YouTube is based in America, there's a good chance it'll be overwhelmingly American pre-school content (with American accents and slang)! ๐Ÿ”Š๐Ÿ‘‚๐Ÿ—ฃPreschool life shouldn't even BE about CONSTANTLY watching screens ๐Ÿ‘, in the age of 'instant gratification', which is why moxierobot.com continues to inspire me so much (using tech, ironically but fundamentally, to get kids AWAY from tech)! ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ๐ŸŒณ#kidsmedia #kidsTV #preschool #PSB #publicbroadcasting #BBC #CBeebies #edutainment

Hollywood Animation is LOSING Kids to Indie YouTube Creators?!

https://lnkd.in/eNRKVc6MPingu was the Bluey of MY generation ๐Ÿ˜Šโค๏ธ - originating in Switzerland, a common episode lasting just 5 minutes, and unafraid to touch on kids' real-life struggles, like seeing Pingu sprinting to reach the toilet but ending up peeing on the bathroom floor, which I didn't know the BBC tried to shorten that sequence (of course, out of concern)! ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿšฝ I grew up with their picture books, their figurines, their educational PC game ('Barrel of Fun'), and was the first show that I got exposed to the BBC logo, so THAT got me brand-loyal for life! ๐Ÿ˜„โค๏ธThis is the first time I've heard anyone say "new-stalgia" - of course, it probably shows how much older I am now, but I just wonder how you can possibly recreate what made Pingu so unique and famous for TODAY'S audience! ๐Ÿ™‚๐Ÿ’ญโ“๏ธ#kidsIP #classicIP #nostalgia #animation #kidsmedia
